Education can make all the difference

We believe that education turns walls into doors of opportunity.

ACT Prep Classes

United Way of Athens-Limestone offers a discounted ACT Prep Class. Students may choose to be tutored in math, science, and English/reading. Students may study one, two, or all three subjects depending on their needs. All students are provided with an ACT Prep book to keep. Scholarships are available to eligible students to cover the cost of the classes. For pricing / availability contact United Way.

College & Career Classes

United Way offers career and college classes for both students and parents through a partnership with Athens State University's Center for Lifelong Learning and other organizations. The Career and College Workshop provides information on available options after graduation, while the Career and College Seminar educates parents of high school students about their child’s college and career opportunities, including financial planning for the next steps.

internships

Education is a United Way priority. Because of this, we offer internships for high school and college students. This program allows students to get career and volunteer experience, giving them an advantage when looking for jobs. Any student in need of an internship can contact United Way to schedule an interview and may be placed with one of our partner agencies.

Graduate Recognition Program

This program serves a dual purpose for students entering their senior year. Participating seniors will earn community service hours that they can use for college scholarships or job applications. Seniors who complete the required hours receive a graduate recognition cord, which can be worn at their school's awards day and graduation. Students will also be presented with a certificate of recognition presented by one of our United Way board members at their class awards day.

The following schools have principal permission to participate in the graduate recognition program for the 2024-2025 school year:

• Ardmore High School
• Athens Bible School
• Elkmont High School
• Lindsay Lane Christian Academy
• Tanner High School

Speaker’s Bureau

To promote career education, United Way established a speaker’s bureau. It consists of professionals and recent graduates from a wide range of careers, all of whom are excited to share their insight and experience with a new generation. Members of our speaker’s bureau visit career days at local schools, where they offer students insight about their careers and the necessary steps to achieve them. Through this program, students can see the many career options that lie ahead of them, helping ensure they choose one they love.
